WHEN STARS ARE IN THE QUIET SKIES. Edward Bulwer, Lord Lytton, who wrote these dainty liues, was an historian and a poet, although preeminent as a novelist; being author of about twenty romances. He wrote a few plays, among which is the "Lady of Lyons," one of the favorites of the stage. He was bora in May, 1805, and died in London, January 18, 1873.

For thoughts, like waves that glide by night, Are stillest when they shine ; Mine earthly love lies hushed in light Beneath the heaven of thine.
